From AVANCE Parent to Education Coach
Nearly 33 Years of Transforming Lives Through Education
“When I decided to earn a degree, I wanted to send the message that it doesn’t matter how old you are or how much time has passed since you were last in school. When there is a will, there is a way.”
For nearly 33 years, Isidora Beltran has been part of the AVANCE-Houston family, embodying the organization’s mission of empowering families through education and opportunity.
Isidora’s journey began in 1992, when she enrolled her two-year-old son, Jeremy, in AVANCE’s Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP). After completing the program, she continued her family’s education through Early Head Start. Inspired by the impact AVANCE had on her family, she became a volunteer and took part in educational opportunities offered by the organization, including English as a Second Language (ESL) and Adult Education classes.
As her confidence and skills grew, AVANCE offered Isidora a position as a Teacher Assistant. Determined to continue her own educational path, she earned her GED and began what would become a remarkable career dedicated to supporting children and families.
Over the past three decades, Isidora has served in multiple roles across the organization, including Teacher Assistant, Teacher, Home Visitor, Family Development Worker, and now Education Coach. Her professional growth mirrors the transformative opportunities AVANCE strives to provide every family it serves.
Inspired by the lifelong learning she encouraged in parents and children, Isidora pursued higher education while working full-time and proudly earned her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2022.
Today, as an Education Coach, Isidora plays a critical role in shaping the success of AVANCE’s Early Head Start and Head Start programs. She supports and mentors teachers, helping ensure they are equipped with the knowledge, tools, and best practices needed to create high-quality learning experiences for young children. Through coaching, professional development, and hands-on support in the classroom, her influence reaches far beyond any single room, impacting countless children, families, and educators.
Reflecting on her journey, Isidora remains grateful for the opportunities AVANCE provided her family.
“My sons are my pride and joy, and participating in AVANCE’s programs equipped me to be the best parent I could be. Serving as a volunteer and having access to educational opportunities inspired me to continue my education and achieve my dream of becoming the educator I am today.”
From AVANCE parent to volunteer, educator, mentor, and leader, Isidora’s story is a testament to the lasting impact of education and perseverance. Her decades of service demonstrate how investing in one family can create a ripple effect that transforms generations.
Thank you, Isidora, for nearly 33 years of dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to helping children, families, and educators thrive.
